Mary Jane Philpy-Dollins was born in Midland, Texas, and enrolled at Trinity School as a kindergartener. She completed Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, ending her Trinity School career with graduation in 2001. She was one of five students in her graduating class to have completed 15 years of education at Trinity School, making her a “Lifer.”
After graduation, she attended Vanderbilt University to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both English and Women’s Studies. She then completed a Master of Arts Degree in Women’s Studies from Texas Woman’s University. She worked at Planned Parenthood of North Texas and Zhi Tea before starting two years of pre-nursing study at Austin Community College in 2010. In 2015, Mary Jane completed a Master of Science in Maternity Nursing with a Role Specialty in Administration at the University of Texas at Austin, while working full-time as a Registered Nurse for the Women’s Services unit at St. David’s Medical Center. In 2017, she became the first staff member in the St. David’s Partnership to be certified in Perinatal Loss Care by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
After five years working directly with postpartum, hospitalized pregnant, and gynecologic patients at the bedside, Mary Jane transitioned in April 2019 to become the Outreach Director for Women’s Services for the St. David’s HealthCare Partnership in Austin. In this role, she acts as a point of contact between rural and community hospitals and the five St. David’s HealthCare facilities that offer perinatal care. Her liaison role supports community health efforts through the coordination of outreach perinatal education, policy-sharing, and the development of specialty outpatient perinatology clinics.
Mary Jane has had terrific role models of community service through her family’s example in Midland and beyond. Raised as an Episcopalian on both sides of her family, she has been taught from a young age that community service is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to civic life. After Trinity School, Mary Jane volunteered at the Denton County Friends of the Family, the Fort Worth Public Library, Whole Woman’s Health of Austin, St. David’s Medical Center, and as a board member for the Pregnancy and Postpartum Health Alliance of Texas. She has also served as a department representative on several hospital-based committees, has spoken as a visiting nurse lecturer on perinatal loss care, and has co-led community workshops for professionals on reproductive grief strategies. Mary Jane has also returned to Trinity School as an alumna for two separate Career Day presentations. In 2018, she was awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, which is internationally given to “honor a Registered Nurse who has personified a remarkable patient experience, through excellent clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.”
In her spare time, Mary Jane is an active reader, knitter, tea enthusiast, and scotch drinker. She is a beginner in conversational medical Spanish, and she hosts a yearly formal tea party based on a different 1980s/1990s drag film.  Mary Jane has two nephews in San Antonio, one niece in Midland, and lives with her husband, Clay, in Austin.
