A Look Into Trinity's Coaching Staff

Coach McCarthy
It has been a wild and crazy summer here in the Trinity Athletic department. I thought this would be a great time to introduce the new athletic department. After a few departures and a change in departments within the school, the coaching staff has a new look. I am very excited about this staff and what they have to offer to the athletes here at Trinity School.

I’ll start with what I think is the most important part of athletics, the new strength & conditioning coach. Thomas Lafarelle is new to the position but not new to the Trinity. Coach LaFarelle brings excitement and a lot of positive energy to the program. This is a game changer for the department. It has been fun to watch how excited and hard working our athletes have been through the beginning of fall practice. I believe that it is only going to get better as the year goes on and Coach LaFarelle establishes his program.

Now it is time to talk about the veterans. Coach Greg Koch will be taking care of the football program along with Coach Midkiff (Defensive Coordinator) and Coach LaFarelle (new Offensive Coordinator). He will also be leading the track program in the spring. Tennis will still be in the great hands of Coach Janneke Garos and Coach Jane Kauffman. Coach Kodi Dixon has moved from the P.E. department to teach history in Middle School. She will now be the boy’s and girl’s golf coach along with running the Charger Sport Network Instagram page. Coach Leija is back for his second season as the volleyball head coach. He did a great job last year of leading the girls to the playoffs. Coach Leija has stepped it up this year helping set up and run camps for our young girls wanting to play volleyball.

Coach Emily DiBiaggo is our new cross country coach. Coach DiBiaggo ran cross country at Texas A&M. She brings a fresh look and lots of enthusiasm to the cross country program. The team’s first meet is this Saturday at Hogan Park. Boys run at 10:00 a.m. and girls run at 10:30 a.m. Middle School boys run at 11:00 a.m., and the Middle School girls run at 11:30 a.m. We hope to see all of you out there supporting the cross country team.

The basketball program has been completely revamped on the boys and the girls programs. Coach Zachary Bryant will take over the boys program. He comes to us from Midland Christian where he coached for the past few years. Coach Bryant played and coached at the D 2 and NAIA level in California before moving to Texas. He is here to build a program from the ground up like all of our new coaches.

The girls program will be led by Coach Tawanna Flowers. She is a West Texas girl having grown up in Levelland. Coach Flowers continued her basketball career at Texas Tech where she played for Coach Marsha Sharp. Coach Flowers is no stranger to building a program. I watched her take a Trinity Valley program from the basement to being one of the top programs in the SPC. Like Coach Bryant, you will see her building her program from the ground up.

We have hired a full time trainer, Colleen Baer. Colleen comes to us from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Where she was the trainer for all sports except for football. She dealt with over 120 athletes at UTPB. She is a transplant from California, and we are very excited to have her here on campus. Colleen will also be a part of the P.E. department.

The new Athletic Director is the final piece to this new puzzle. I come to Trinity from having served as the Athletic Director of Casady School in Oklahoma City for the past 7 year. Previous to that stop I was the head football and track coach at Cistercian Preparatory School in Irving, Texas where I coached football, track, baseball, basketball, and soccer for 24 years. I am a panhandle boy having gone to high school in Borger. I am very excited and happy to be a part of this new look athletic department.

The coaching staff and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Charger athletic events this coming year. This is going to be a fun and exciting year. As a department, we want to thank everyone for the support they have shown so far this season. We look forward to representing the Trinity Chargers this year.

Go Chargers!!
