Looking back at your high school years, which academic subject or course had the most impact on you and why?
I think Mr. Kleinbeck’s English I class and Latin 2 had the most impact on my overall understanding of the English language. Obviously English class helps with spelling, grammar, and writing, but Latin really helped me grasp the deeper bits of English grammar before we went over them in English class. Latin shares a lot with English in that way, and Mr. K drove it home with the teaching in a language I am actually fluent in. Those two classes made me a better reader and writer overall and set me up very well for the rest of my high school career.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen based on your experiences?
Come to T-Block. Every day you can. It has been the most helpful thing compared to middle school. It is the perfect time to talk to teachers or just see your friends. It also is not that big of a change waking up compared to middle school because it starts at the same time. It has saved me on a couple of occasions where I forgot to finish an assignment. I am 100% for T-Block.
What are you looking forward to the most for your senior year?
To be honest I am most excited for Valentines Day. The loud, energetic interruptions during class are some of the most fun I remember from lower and middle school. It feels special to receive the little cups with candy and it’s even more special to be the ones handing them out. Not to mention riding around on skateboards and other odd things throughout the school.
What are your plans after you graduate?
I don’t have any plans too far into the future. I am hoping to go to either Colorado College or Denver University — so really just somewhere close to the mountains. I’ll major in a form of History-Philosophy one way or another with a minor or double major in German. The only real goal I have currently is to be fluent in German, so college will help greatly with that. Other than those flexible ideas, I have a go-with-the-flow mentality for what comes next. I am ready to face whatever life throws at me.
