How often do we pause and wonder about buttons?  These are amazing things.  Buttons connect things together.  Buttons snap.  Buttons light up when pressed.  Buttons magically take you to other places.

We all can learn so much about life and have a greater appreciation of our world if only we pause and look through the eyes of a child.  For some reason I have been thinking about an episode with buttons with my grandchildren in an elevator.  Children can be incredible in the way they view the world.  They can smile and laugh at the things that we take for granted, but should we?

I recall my grandchildren gaining satisfaction and joy from buttons.  They just loved the buttons of the elevator.  Anytime we could go down a few flights of steps or take the elevator, the elevator is chosen. Of course, they all want to be the one who pushes the buttons.  Who knew that a simple thing can produce such joy?  It could have been that it lit when depressed.  It could be that it gives a feeling of power and control.  It could be the belief that the buttons take you to other places.

There is much to learn from a child.  What I learned from my grandchildren is that we take too much for granted and don't pause and see the joy in simple things.  I have never looked at buttons in an elevator in the same way again. 

This demonstrates some of the curiosity and creativity in the mind of a child.  Each day at school and during this Christmas season with my grandchildren I am going to consciously look for this kind of thinking and just marvel at it.
