Lt. Michael Wood '04 visits the School

Lt. Michael Wood, USMC, '04, recently visited Trinity School.  After New York University, Michael joined the Marines.
His impromptu visit rallied Government teacher, Michael Midkiff '99, to have Michael Wood visit with his class. Joining them was Dean of Students, Jeff Young '84. Michael Wood has returned with a wound to his leg from his second tour of Afghanistan. He told the students his squad is still in Afghanistan, and with the poppy season being harvested, the month of May becomes one of the most dangerous months of fighting. The temperature varies from freezing rain in winter to 120 degrees in the summer. Michael Midkiff, who served two tours in Iraq concurred that the heat takes it's toll, as did Jeff Young who served in the first Gulf War. The uniforms and equipment may weigh as much as 70 lbs. All three combat veterans agreed that the bonds made in their units are very strong and transcend normal friendships.
Michael Wood, his wife Sarah and baby, plan to move to Texas soon.
Trinity School has had several former students join the Armed Forces. We were privileged to have three together on campus sharing a bit of their history.
