Lower School Art

Lower School Art students are exposed to artists, art periods, geographic locations and time periods with every project. Through art, students learn about their emotions, how to communicate with others, and how to observe and analyse through art. Lower School Art is a starting point for students to gain excitement about their future as an artist.
Melissia Hoke has been teaching for 18 1,2 years and has loved every minute of the adventure! In the past, she taught 6th grade Reading and Language Arts, Fine Arts (Music, Art, and Drama), and is extremely excited to continue teaching the subject she is most passionate about, ART! She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science and Academic Studies. She has lived in Midland for most of her life and is a graduate of Lee High School. Mrs. Hoke has always had a love for the fine arts. She started creating and drawing from a young age, and her interest continued to grow. She loves to create all kinds of art, but her favorite is acrylic painting and collage. You can also find her behind the piano in Lower School chapel. She looks forward to getting to know all of her Lower School students, and is excited to help them on their journey to become the masterpieces she knows they are!
Gaudi Elejalde was born in Ecuador, and throughout her life she has had the opportunity to live in six different cities, always staying connected to the arts, exploring music, painting, and ceramics through a variety of classes. These experiences have shaped her creativity and the way she approaches teaching.
Gaudi’s career in teaching started during the pandemic as a substitute teacher. Seeing the excitement on children’s faces when they realize they are capable of more than they thought possible. Being part of that discovery, and encouraging them to believe in themselves, is deeply rewarding for her.
Educated in engineering, she found her true purpose in education. Being surrounded by children, their enthusiasm, creativity, and growth through learning, feels magical and inspires her every day.
Wherever life takes Gaudi, she remains committed to fostering creativity, confidence, and a love of learning in the classroom.
