Looking back at your high school years, which academic subject or course had the most impact on you and why?
Before entering high school, I did not think fondly of really any subject, but when I got up here, my love and interest for English began. I have always been really creative and had a big imagination since I was a child, and I would always be playing pretend with my mom and sister, and I would love it when she would make up stories. I am always aiming to grow my skills in English and enhance my writing. When I do not make the grade I was hoping for, I try to take it as more of a lesson learned to tell myself what I need to improve on. Whether I am writing an essay, journaling, reading, or having a discussion, I always feel myself improving.
Have you had any mentors or teachers who made a significant impact on you?
Throughout my time at Trinity, I have had many teachers help me. Going all the way back to when I was in middle school, I really struggled with math, and even though Mrs Shipley wasn't my teacher, she would take time out of her day to help and tutor me after school, and I am still grateful for that to this day.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen based on your experiences?
Do not hold onto things that aren't beneficial to your life, and try to be your own person, as individualism is what makes people shine. You should always put forth your best effort, as these four years are important in preparing you for your future and strengthening your work ethic. You are not always going to make amazing grades, but if you truly tried and worked hard, you shouldn't discredit yourself.
What are your plans after you graduate?
After high school, I plan to get out of Midland and study journalism either in Austin or in the northeast. I see myself living in a big city, and I am really excited to see what my future holds. I will continue to work hard and focus my energy on things that are important to me.
